Abstract

Hepatitis B (HBV) and Hepatitis D (HDV) coinfection significantly worsens liver disease outcomes, leading to higher risks of cirrhosis and liver cancer. This article reviews the modern understanding of HBV+HDV coinfection, covering its pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment. Current therapies, including interferon and emerging antivirals like bulevirtide, are discussed, along with the importance of HBV vaccination for prevention. The need for more effective treatments and global public health efforts to reduce coinfection rates is emphasized.
