Abstract

The structure and properties of gauze are intrinsically linked to its weaving patterns, which
influence its surface appearance and various physical characteristics. This study investigates the
impact of different weaving techniques on the attributes of gauze, including hardness, elasticity,
thickness, permeability, and dimensional changes during wet processing. Despite the known
variations in gauze properties due to weaving methods, there is a lack of comprehensive
understanding regarding the correlation between specific patterns and the resultant fabric
characteristics. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a detailed analysis of gauze samples with diverse weaving patterns, examining their longitudinal (tanda), crosswise (argoq), and diagonal paths. Utilizing standardized textile testing methods, we evaluated the physical properties of each sample. Our findings reveal that the weaving patterns significantly affect the gauze's mechanical and physical properties, with specific patterns contributing to enhanced elasticity and controlled dimensional stability. These results have practical implications for the textile industry, particularly in the modeling, cutting, and sewing of gauze-based garments. Understanding the rapport of patterns in knitting allows for optimized fabric design, ensuring the desired balance of properties for specific applications. This study underscores the importance of selecting appropriate weaving techniques to achieve targeted performance characteristics in gauze fabrics.
