Development of Social Work in Western Europe and the United States During the 19th and 20 th Centuries
Abstract
Social work experienced substantial advancement in the mid-19th century and into the 20th century in Western Europe and the United States. This era witnessed the gathering of extensive experience and the development of a solid theoretical framework grounded in scientific principles. The 1950s represented a significant juncture with the emergence of a holistic scientific paradigm. Vladimir Solovyov's interpretation of Auguste Comte's "positive philosophy" was instrumental. Solovyov accurately characterised Comte as an individual whose demeanour inspired compassion rather than terror.
