The characteristics of distance learning in higher education institutions are covered in great detail in this article. The article outlines the unique characteristics of distance learning in higher education, including the need to balance work and study, the shortage of study time, the number of hours of content covered, and the preponderance of individual work. All of these situations call for unique pedagogical strategies when teaching English, including effective use of the Internet, remote learning, the use of different electronic textbooks, boosting student motivation and interest, successful student independent work, and proper knowledge control organization.
