Abstract

The article discusses information that the main functional center of the city was squares, and administrative and public buildings were built on city squares. The principles of the formation of city squares, public gardens and the history of their formation are given.Annotation. The article discusses the information that the main functional center of the city are squares, administrative and public buildings are being built on city squares. A number of research papers and scientific publications and articles are devoted to the problems of creating, repairing and restoring protected areas of squares and mahallas in historical parts of cities of Uzbekistan. In this regard, by decree of the President of our country, large-scale work is underway to preserve and restore historical squares and architectural monuments and complexes of historical cities. A striking example is the large-scale work carried out in Samarkand. During the years of independence, great strides have been made in our republic in preserving, protecting and using the historical and cultural environment for modern purposes.

The Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan contains the idea of preserving architectural and historical monuments and defines their importance for the development of science, culture, and public education.  Based on this, the historically formed central squares of the city of Samarkand, the functions of the squares of ancient cities will be considered. There were several squares in ancient cities. The principles of the formation of urban spaces and the history of their origin are given. They have survived to the present day. Below we will look at the origin and current state of some areas.The issues of ensuring compositional harmony with the modern environment, including them in modern life that meets social, technical, sanitary, hygienic and aesthetic requirements are considered.
