Abstract

This article examines the significant social and cultural impact of internet memes
shared on social media platforms. The article argues that the decentralized, grassroots nature of meme
creation and circulation makes them a uniquely potent cultural force. However, the article also
highlights problematic aspects of memes including their use to spread misinformation and engage in
harmful stereotyping.
